The Claddagh was rocking last night with the Souper Groove All-Stars! Featuring sit-ins by Tim McCullion of Tympanic Plexus on keys, adding luscious synth layers to Turtle Soup classics “Changin”, “Baby Don’t”, “Alive”, and “Automatic Trance Mission” while Dave “D-Kru” Krukowski’s rapping on “Huego Latino”, brought the slow middle section to a heated, hip-hop frenzy.
The All-Stars paid tribute to the Anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” and also covered “Fool” by Donovan Frankenreiter, “Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen” by Santana and “Send Me on My Way” by Rusted Root. Turtle Soup’s Sean Dodds gets a bid for multi-instrumentalist as he started the night on vocals for “Fool” then transitioned to keys for a few songs, jumped on acoustic guitar for “Send Me on My Way” and back on keys for a fiery “Liquid, I Said” solo. Ben Feld took vocals for many songs and a behind-the-back keyboard solo on “Automatic Trance Mission”.
The Turtle Soup section was on fire as usual. Andy Meyer on drums and “Dark” Mark Nettelingham on percussion take the groove to a whole new level, while adding Michael “The Derminator” McDermott’s thunderous bass lines reminds us of why Turtle Soup is a 5x Asbury Music Award Winner for Top Groove Band and Top Jam Band. Andy Feldman on keys and Jeff “Mudd” Mahajan on guitar took several rousing solos that lit up the entire room, including a quote from the epic Star Wars theme in mid-shred. The All-Stars crushed “For Once” and their theme song “We’ve Got Each Other” before ending the night.
The next Souper Groove All-Stars performance is Friday, November 8 at House of Independents in Asbury Park, NJ. Free Admission. Not to be missed, as we have a full night of music planned, with 3 drum risers, Phish and Lettuce covers, sit-ins from Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and much more!
